Israel Rules Out Withdrawal from Southern Lebanon “Security Zone”

(MENAFN) Israel will not withdraw from its so-called “security zone” in southern Lebanon as part of emerging understandings between the United States and Iran, according to Israeli security sources cited by media reports on Saturday.

A public broadcaster, quoting security officials, said the Israeli defense establishment is preparing for potential instructions from the political leadership to pause elements of the ground offensive in southern Lebanon, in light of a developing US–Iran agreement.

The sources added that Israel is also considering limiting the scope of its strikes deeper inside Lebanese territory, out of concern that such operations could disrupt or undermine the anticipated diplomatic deal between Washington and Tehran.

However, they emphasized that military activity would continue with a stronger focus in southern Lebanon. “The Israeli army will not withdraw from the security zone in southern Lebanon,” the sources were quoted as saying.

At the same time, the Israeli military campaign in Lebanon has continued since early March, with Lebanese officials reporting thousands of deaths, widespread injuries, and mass displacement affecting over a million people.

Israeli forces have also advanced more than 10 kilometers into Lebanese territory, establishing what Israel refers to as a “security zone,” according to reports.
